It’s no wonder dog owners are so confused about what to feed their beloved pets these days.It used to be that the dog got whatever was left when we finished our meals. Then experts determined that it wasn’t healthy to feed a dog table scraps, that only the professionally formulated (not to mention expensive) pet foods would give your dog all the nutrients he needed to stay healthy. Now we seem to have come full circle, so to speak.Available for the conscientious pet owner are feeds that contain “human-grade” meat.Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t the table scraps all “human-grade”?There comes a point when you have to stop and ask yourself “Does this make sense to anybody except the guy selling the dog food?”

There is still a lot of confusion around feeding bones to your dogs. I am going to straigten this out now.
If you are cooking a recipe that asks for chicken, you may be tempted to throw in a bunch of little chicken drummys and winglets. These are great, and while there is very little meat on these bones it only takes 40 min of simmering in order to get the meet to just drop off the bone and onto a plate. But its very important that you NEVER give your cooked bones to you dog for him to chew on. I have seen countless incidents of dogs with torn intestines, bowel obstructions and blood in stools.
Its very painful for your dog and will end up a very costly lesson for you.
So summary: Never Feed Cooked Bones of any SORTS!
On the other hand bones are the best things you can give your dogs. But they must, must, must be raw bones. Any types of raw bones can be give such as raw chicken wings, raw drumsticks, raw leg bones (mine love licking the marrow out and its takes them all day).
You should be giving your dog a raw bone every single day. Its their way of brushing their teeth. Otherwise it could end up being a costly little visit to the Doggie Dentist.

2 x 500ml Beef stroganoff sauce or the sachet packs can be made up into the sauce
2 litre water (this need to be monitored so it doesn’t dry out.
2 cups of rice
METHOD
This dish is best cooked in a slow cooker over a couple of hours. Most homemade dog food can be made this way so if you dont have one you may want to consider investing the $50 because it really is a great little invention. The slow cooking method allows you to buy the less quality tougher and cheaper meats, and with the slow cooking process it produces a very nice tender full flavored meat.
1. Put the mince, rice and vegetables into a pot. Add sufficient water to cover the meat and vegs. Put the heat up high until it starts to boil and then reduce the heat back to a simmer. NOTE: Don’t allow your meat to boil too long, it should only simmer. Other wise it will go rubbery and wont be too enjoyable for your pooch.
2. When the pot begins to boil, simply reduce the heat right down, add the stroganoff sauces and simmer covered for 2 hours.
3. After 2 hours the sauce should have simmered right down and will thicken when it starts to cool. Distribute into containers but do not put in the fridge until the meat has cooled to room temperature or it will effect the fragile climate within your fridge.
If your dog is tricky and wont eat his vegetables, try adding 1/2 tsp french onion soup powder to his food. The flavor overpowers the taste of the veggies.
